Audience Research on Film beginings

I interviewed a variety of people to see what there thoughts are on what makes an opening of a movie exiting, and makes you want to watch. I found that it really does depend on gender, but both women and men agreed that having up beat music and scenes of comedy, makes it more interesting and grasps the target audience.

Kick Ass - 9 Key Screen Shots

These 9 key shots stood out to me when i first watched the opening of Kick-Ass. The first one because it was brightly coloured and stood out from the back ground. The second one because it establishes where this film is set, (New York). Third one because the 'superhero' really stands out and tells us what the movie is about.  Forth shot, because it shows us what the superhero is looking at. Fifth one has comedy in it and the audience doesn't expect that the superhero is going to crash. The next one because they tell us the name of the movie. I really like how they wrote it on the registration plate, it is different compared to the usual headings which appear on screen. And the last one because it tells us how old they are and that they are still at school.

Mood Board

Mood Boards are used to give an overall idea of what your movie is going to look like and what colours are going to be used. To make our Mood Board we cut out lots of images from magazines and printed of some images. Looking at our Mood Board I noticed that there is a lot of bright colours used, mainly yellow and purples. This is maybe to attracted and catch the audiences attention. It also are happy colours so that it makes you smile.

Graphic Breakdown of How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days

This is a graphic breakdown of the movie comedy drama, How To Lose a Guy In 10 days. The oppening lasts 04:14 minutes and it finishes with the Director as most films end the titles with the director.

Prelim Task

                   <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hBsaEesYrNE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When we were filming this task, we had to include three main shots which were. Match on action, shot reverse shot and 180 degree rule. I found 180 degree rule confusing and hard not to brake, but finally got used to it.

Research on genre Comedy / Drama

File:50FirstDates.jpgThere are many films which have the genre 'Comedy drama'. Such as, I Spy, Bad boys 2 and many more.
All these genre of film (comedy drama) have all got more or less the same structure.
Starts of funny, all seems to be going well then all of a sudden drama strikes and the movie is all about fixing it. Normally girl meets boy are always in comedy, drama's. For example in this movie, 50 First Dates, Adam Sandler goes of sailing after a funy introduction, his boat brakes down which is comical, he then meets a girl, Drew Barrymore, all seems to be going well but when Adam Sandler returns to see her the next day, there is a change of mood as she doesn't remember who he is. This is when we find out she has short term memory loss. And the ending is happy.

Bad Boys 2. Is quite different to how comedy, Dramas normally start of, but soon falls in to 'place'.  Actor Will Smith is main character. Finds him and his police partner Martin Lawrence in a situation amongst the 'KKK' it is all very tense, but comedy soon unfolds when they take there robes of. As the schock on 'KKK's faces are very comical. Again it ends happy
Bad Teacher.jpg

Bad Teacher. Has the same structure, Cameron Diaz is engaged to millionaire for his money. Her fiancee realises this and dumps her. Again ends happily.
Normally the main characters in Comedy dramas are women. As production companies would like more women to go and see there film. But not all the time women are main characters, such as in 50 first dates. The music which  is added to these films are normally upbeat and happy.

Film Brief!

IMGA0303.JPG.jpg

Ichose to the genre comedy. I chose to pick this one because i thought it would be a lot easier to get ideas from. I think it will be successful because we have a wide variety of areas we can film in, e.g the woods, fire station and more.

Jelly Babie Story Board

There is a family of six. Mum, Dad, twin brothers, a sister and a male toddler. This family are not close and rarely spend time together.

Opening scene will show the two twin brothers (green Jelly Babies) creating trouble by beating up someone at school. And the slutty sister (red Jelly Baby) getting with one of her boyfriends on the school bench at the entrance.

The Twins then take their bad behavior to the next level and start setting fire to the school. Because they think it is funny and they hate school.

The black jelly baby, is the dad. He is a postman, who goes through the post looking for checks and money, anything he can steal. And he can't really be bothered working.

The mum (yellow Jelly baby) works at a local supermarket. Parents can not afford to send toddler (orange jelly baby) to nursery so she takes toddler to work with her and hides him under her check out.

This above shot shows how far apart the family is in closeness. We have the toddler and mum walking together and the dad marching a head.

The above picture shows the slutty daughter coming in really late after being out drinking and the dad screaming at her, but the daughter shows no reaction and doesn't care what the dad thinks.

The above picture is about one if the twins going out, and he is drunk walking on the side of the bridge, and he falls in, family don't know where he is, but they not really worried.

This is the end scene of all the members of the family. Standing round in a circle looking at each other.
