The Final Film

When we finished our Media film it was a relief to have finaly finished putting all the different clips together, editing different areas to try make it look as good as possible. I had fun making this clip and i learned a lot doing so. Next time i would choose to  do a less complicated story line so it would be easier to shoot.
This film is tagged, if you would like to watch the clip without tags you have to click on the red speach bubble in the bottom right hand corner to turn it of.

Looking Back

Looking back at this topic i have learned how to use many different programs such as Blogger, Freeplaymusic.com, Premier Elements  where i  learned how to upload video clips, edit, add effects and add music. I learned how to upload movies to Youtube.  I now understand a lot about how to film the actors and scenes using many different camera shots such as panning, tracking, over the shoulder shots and many more, i found this very useful as it made the film more interesting . After learning all of these different techniques and learning all about these different programs it has made me a lot more confident and it will help me a lot for my next project.

Directors Comentary

This is the Directors Commentary, we all said one thing about the film .

Audience Research

I asked a few people to watch my opening film and asked them what they thought about the film. I found out a lot of positive and negative feedback and if i were to do this movie again i would know what to do to improve it.

The different technology i used

The audience for my media product

Before we made the Oppening of our movie, we said that our target audience would be for both boys and girls interest. perhaps more boys as their is scenes of violence and slutty girls, Aimed between the ages of 16- 28 year old's. And i would still say that we are aiming for the same audience.
Our audience would listen to music such as mainstreeme, singers such as Rhianna, David Guetta, Jamie T.

Our Target audience would watch Tv shows such as Two and a Half Men, Friends, Fresh Meet, Inbetweeners, Gossip Girl, Desperate House wifes, Couger Town, 90210, Modern Family, Skins and Misfits, Including channels such as MTV and E4. The movies which our audience would go and see would be Comedy dramas such as Hot Fuzz, Bad teacher, Couples retreat, How to lose a guy in 10 days, Bad boys, Mean girls, Men in black

Social Groups

Representation of Social Group
In our Media product we can identify different types of social groups in different characters.

Sister

The Sister Gave of the reprresentation of a popular girl, lots of friends mean to poeple outside her cleack and is slutty. The genre reminded me of the american film Mean Girls, as they have the same genre, which ish comedy drama, the two are set in schools, and the girls have the same personality as our slutty girl character.

If i had to relate my film to a Brittish film, i would chose St Trinians.

9 key shots!

Title of the Film
The titles of our film is shown on a letter, on someones back, on the old camera effect, i think this made it stand out more than in normal  HD.

The Setting
The second image shows the sort of area and setting in which we shot this film.

Costumes
The costumes which we used in our video, were just normal clothes, the costume which stood out most for me, would be the sister with her heels on a white blouse, fish net tights and black high heels. I thought this gave a good idea of what her personality is like, just by looking at the clothes.

Camera work and Editing
We used many different types of camera shots when filming such as, over the shoulder shots, tracking, panning, zoom in and out. Ants eye views, Point of views. In our editing we cut a lot out when editing and added different effects in it such as black and white. We used the technique jump shot. We also had to fast forward parts especially the envelope flying so we could make it shorter. I picked the picture which shows fading in to another shot.

Font and Style
For our font and style we wanted it to be in the opening tittles instead of being added in later. We put the Font and Style on Envelopes and every time it got to the character it introduced a part of the film crew.

Story / Narrative
I chose to show the picture of the sister close to her boyfriend because it tells you a part of the story of what shes like.

Genre and suggestions of it.
The shot i chose for this section would be, the dad ( post man ) stealing money from the envelope which he is a meant to be delivering, it is quite comical.

Characters
We had 6 characters in our opening titles, all doing different parts, there was The Dad (post man) the Mum kitchen lady, with the baby hiding at the side, the sister and her boyfriend and the two trouble twins.

Special FX
We did not only use black and white through the film, but we also used the technique of old camera, which i liked because it made a bit different.

point 22 Animatic of our storyboard

I took photos of our storyboard, and added the music that we are using for our opening tittles.

Point 21 - planing the music!!

We have decided to use one sound track through out the whole opening of our movie. It is upbeat there for links in with our type of genre (Comedy drama). This song will add more atmosphere and energy, this will draw the audiences attention, and keep them entertained instead of using diagetic sounds. We found the song which we will be using on a website called mp3sunsigned.com

Story Arc - Point 18 & 19

  • All of the five family members, start fighting (sister, twin brothers, baby, mum and dad.)
  • The children go to school, glad to be away from family, pretend they don't know each other at school. Due to different friendship groups.
  • Girl is a slut and the twins are bad asses!
  • Twins messing around, doing funny things and accidentally set fire to the school, due to their joint. don't care they find it funny.
  • Meanwhile the girl is in a cupboard with a guy and they smell smoke luckily they escape. and she goes mental at the twins.
  • Mum and baby, win a free holiday all inclusive for a week for all of family in Benidorm. Whilst the mum is working in the supper market. Later on that night tells family she has one a holiday
  • no one wants to go because they don't like each other, but then decide to go because flight leaves the next day and parents know rent is due and they do not have the money.
  • During the holiday the family get closer together, have a great time and become close. Comical things happen then.
  • When they get back they see that the land lord has put an evicted letter on the door. If they don't pay money by the end of the week they will be kicked out.
  • Family starts to argue again cause parents didn't tell them, then kids take jobs as well as parents to help pay.
  • on the last day when the money is due they still do not have enough. But mum buys a scratch card they win £1000000, and they pay of the rent.
End of story.

this is an example of Todorovs theory as we have the typical narrative structure. We have out climaxes and problems but by the end everything has been resolved.
We also use  elements of Propps theory during the fire scene. The sister is the damsel in distress because she is trapped by the fire, twins are the villains because they are the ones who start fire, the hero's are the firemen, who put out the fire.
We also use elements of Strauss by using binary opposites.
 Rich/ Poor, Happy / sad, funny/ serious, light/ dark.

Findin out Which Tribe i was

I found out that that i am in the tribe sports junkie. which i dont think i am, cause im not a fan of doing sprts.

Point 16 - Film Institutions

     Different Institutions

I looked at many different Comedy, Drama films and which Institutions produced them, many different well known names came up such as, Universal Studios, Columbia, Don Simpson/Jerry BruckHeimer Films, Dream works, MTV films, Warner brothers, Legendary pictures, Paramount. All of these Institutions are very well known, but the institution which came up a couple of times was Universal Studios.

Textual Analysis of - Couples Retreat

   Couples Retreat

A comedy, drama. Four couples, which are close friends end up in paradise as they try to save their friends marriage. They arrive everything seems to be going well, but it is not long until drama kicks of as they find out they all have to attend couples therapy which starts problems in their marriages but it is still full of comedy.

In couples retreat there are clear uses of cinematography, editing, sound and mis-en-scene.
There is a lot of use of non-diagetic music, which has been added at different scenes.

sounds
As the opening titles start there is an upbeat happy song, which makes us interested and keeps us entertained through until the movie starts.  This music is quickly stopped when we hear a clatter of pans falling (diagetic sound).  Then a little bit of comedy is introduced as the son pees the bed, this is then followed by a short guitar sequence. We then hear diagetic sounds of cups being placed back on table, spreading butter on toast, the sound of his steps. When family is in car we hear a mixture of non- diagetic and diagetic sound, of the car moving and cars around on the road and then we hear non-diagetic sound of the children’s video game. When ‘Dave’ is on phone to ‘Shane’ we hear the different sounds of what is going on in their backgrounds.

 Mis-en-scene
Looking at the Mis-en-scene such as their clothes, we can tell that it’s very cold how they have all are wearing big jackets and hats on. It is set in our time (21st century), as they are up to date on their technology.  We see a dramatic difference on the props, which surround the actors when they arrive at their holiday destination (Eden East). As they are wearing bright colourful clothes, as we can tell by the high key lighting and how little clothes they have on that it is very warm. Their personalities seem to be a lot happier and relaxed. The difference of living conditions upgrade hugely as they have, five star restaurants, pools, Jacuzzis, spas and separate villas.

 cinematography
There is a wide range of cinematography used in just a little amount of time. The first shot they use is a panning shot, which starts at ‘Dave’s’ feet then slowly pans up to his head. We then have a P.O.V (point of view) shot of dad looking at son and then shot reverse of son looking at dad. When family is sitting down at table there is high and low angles used when husband is taking to wife, because husband is sitting down. Another pan shot is used when the car is driving by. When Dave and his wife are in shop having a discussion they use the shot technique shot reverse shot, this shows us both actors reactions when talking. When ‘Shane’ Is on phone and he looks through the window at his girlfriend they use a subjective shot. They use natural lighting to film in the morning and in light areas, which looks quite dull. They then go to use added lighting when indoors with no windows.  They directors then use the camera technique A.E.V (ants eye view & birds eye view) B.E.V.  when mum and dad are looking at small son and when son is looking up at dad.

 Theories
This movie does use the three theories. Tzvetan Todorov, Vladamir Propp and Claude Levi Strauss. Todorov’s theory happens as it starts of equilibrium,  then we have a crisis then a few complications and by the end of the movie everything is resolved.  Propp’s theory is that there is a villain, a hero, damsel and distress, a false hero ect. They have all these characteristics as they are on holiday. We have Dave as the hero, he leads them all across the island. Synthia, as damsel in distress when she falls in the sea and more. Strauss’s theory takes place how they have kind/evil, relaxed/strict, flexible/inflexible and many more through out this film.
By using these theories it does make the film quite predictable, but we know that it will be a happy ending.

Peral and Dean

Peral and Dean are very well known for selling advertisment to cinemas.

Looking at the graphs which Pearl and Dean have created, tells us a wide variety of information due to the amount of detail they contain. The graph 15 + (Cinemagoers who are young and upmarket) tells us that people between the ages 25 - 34 35+ go and watch movies at the cinemas compared to younger ages. Also tells us that people who have more money go to the cinema than people who have less.
Looking at this graph tells me that more famlies go to the cinemas with childeren between the ages 7-14.

Pearl and Dean's graph has told me that we have to aim our film at ages 25-34 35+ and people who are upper class. By making our film aimed at these audiences we know that they will come and pay money to see it.
